Distance Measuring Devices (DMDs)

In recent years the LLCGA has followed the recommendation of EWGA in the use of distance measuring devices in competition. Following the recent decision taken by the EWGA Operational Board to allow the use of DMDs in all their competitions, the LLCGA Executive Committee has decided to permit the use of DMDs in all Lancashire competitions with immediate effect.

The following Local Rule will be in place for all LLCGA competitions:

"For all play in LLCGA competitions, a player may obtain distance information by using a device that measures distance only. If, during a stipulated round, a player uses a distance-measuring device that is designed to gauge or measure other conditions that might affect her play (e.g. gradient, windspeed, temperature, etc.), the player is in breach of Rule 14-3, for which the penalty is disqualification, regardless of whether any such additional function is actually used."

Players are reminded that in order to use DMDs in club qualifying rounds of LLCGA competitions (e.g. Scott Leggatt, Frances Smith) the same local rule must be in place at their club.

EWGA Statement ...

LLCGA were represented at this meeting by County President, Mrs Patsy Wolstenholme, Hon Secretary Miss Elaine Clark, Assistant Secretary Mrs Jennifer Fallows and Immediate Past Captain Janette Smart.
Miss Ann Irvin was present as President of the English Womens' Golf Association.

Report from Jennifer Fallows

This is just a little more detail of today's meeting.
Sylvia Perrins, Chairperson, gave a brief summary of the planning that has occurred during the last two and a half years leading up to today's vote.
There had been numerous meetings of various committees to plan the merger and develop the necessary information packs to go to the members. This had all taken a lot of time and she thanked all those who had contributed.
The outlined the benefits of a merger as
  • being able to speak with one voice
  • being more efficient and cost saving
  • being able to give better support to clubs and counties
  • providing better communication
  • providing greater appeal to sponsors
  • being able to send better media messages
The problems of not merging could be
  • giving the perception of a divided game
  • giving the perception of being out of touch with modern society
  • having a negative impact on club membership
  • not being able to access funding streams
The Way forward is seen as
  • the new Board will meet
  • Executive Directors will be selected
  • on 1st January EWGA will become a subsidiary of EGU
  • Executive Directors will be appointed
  • Governance protocols will be set by the Board
  • Committees will be created
  • A staffing structure will be developed
  • EWGA assets and liabilities will be 'hived up'
Inevitably this will take time and lots of things will carry on the same. there will be a handbook produced. The websites will continue until a new one is created.
From 1st January 2012 England Golf will come into existence.

LLCGA Annual Council Meeting

Held at Wellington Park, Leyland on 31 October at 11 am.

Lancashire Lady Golfers vote overwhelmingly for the merger of the EGU and the EWGA.

At todays’ Council Meeting of the Lancashire Ladies’ County Golf Association the Lancashire clubs voted on the proposed merger of the 2 Governing Bodies of golf. This vote will now go to the EGM of the EWGA being held in Birmingham on 16th November.
The Council meeting also heard the reports from the Executive Committee, the Shields Committee, the Treasurer and the Northern EWGA Representative.
Other than the merger there were no other propositions to discuss and vote on. There were however, several issues raised under AOB for the Executive to act upon.

It was a very well attended meeting which reflects the interest and enthusiasm amongst our members for the sport. Its’ importance cannot be stressed too highly. It is the clubs opportunity to raise issues with the Executive and Club Delegates are strongly advised to attend or send a deputy.

Another date for your Diary. Wednesday 30th November is the AGM. This will be held at Wellington Park at 11am. At this meeting we will hear the Captains’ Report, elect our future Executive Committee and present all the Trophies played for this year.
It is a celebration of this years’ golf. All our members are invited to attend.
